Father of LTTE Leader funeral to take place in Valvettiturai on Sunday

Father of the LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran, Thiruvengadam Velupillai’s funeral will be taking place in Valveddiththu'rai on Sunday. The mother of LTTE leader Mr. V. Pirapaharan, Vallipuram Parvathy, 80 years old, was Friday released from Sri Lanka Army custody and handed over to Tamil National Alliance Parliamentarian and Presidential candidate M. K. Sivajilingam, SLA officials in Colombo said.
Mr. Velupillai was passed away after he was briefly ill for some time in Panagoda Sri Lanka Army camp Wednesday night, according to the Sri Lankan Army official. He was 86 years old at the time of his death.
Mr. Velupillai’s remains will be kept at his daughter’s residence for the public to pay their last respects. Cremation will take place on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in Valveddiththurai.
The Eelam Tamil nation is deeply saddened by the death of Mr Thiruvengadam Velupillai. The Formation Committee for the Provisional Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (PTGTE) extends its heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Velupillai and other family members for their loss," the condolence message by the PTGTE committee said.
The Condolence message further said that Mr Velupillai’s died due to inadequate medical care and his death is in violation of the Geneva Conventions of 1949. Meanwhile, Tamils all over the world are paying last respects to the LTTE leader’s father as he was well respected and well-liked among the Tamils home and abroad. |
