Italy - Foreign ministers from the Group of Eight industrialized nations (G8) while welcomed the Sri Lanka’s end of war, but regretted mass civilian losses; urged government to address humanitarian situation of displaced civilians and ensure free access by aid groups; urged further progress on national reconciliation.
The G8 nations meeting took place in Trieste, Italy, on Friday and weighed in on other regional and global issues. A political observer of the recent war in Sri Lanka and its conduct of the war without witness against Tamil rebels, regretted G8 nations failure in using the opportunity to strongly condemn the undemocratic and authoritarian action by the Government of Sri Lanka for its war crimes, crimes against humanity and the ethnic cleansing.
Where more than 20,000 Tamil civilians who were slaughtered and 30,000 disabled which includes tens of thousands of children in the last days of the Sri Lankan military onslaught, so justice can be served, truth and reconciliation can take place between the majority Singhalese and historically discriminated Tamils in Sri Lanka to achieve long lasting peace.
Sri Lanka conducted the war without witnesses after booting out, U.N., other aid agencies and independent journalists from the war zone. But, still even after the days and weeks passed after the Sri Lanka declared war was over, Sri Lanka continue to denies access to former war zone and interned camps to the aid workers and journalists. Sri Lanka determined to hide the truth, horror of war and its crimes against humanity.
