A Tamil Student assaulted by the Malaysian youth Gang Succumbed to injuries

KL- Mr. Sriskandarajah Saarankan succumbed to injuries Sunday morning at the Subang Jaya Medical Hospital in Malaysia. In the attack Sriskanadarajah’s friend also assaulted by the same gang and he is also admitted to the hospital. According to the available information TNS, Mr. Sriskandarajah Saaranka, his friends were in a restaurant suddenly group of Malaysian youths appeared at the restaurant and started to attack, with machetes and other sharp equipments.

Mr. Sriskandarajah Saarankan, was studying in Nottingham University in Malaysia has been assaulted in a Malaysian restaurant by the Malaysian youths targeting ‘Indian students’three days ago. The Sri Lankan ministry in a statement said, mistaken identity was the reason Sri Lankan students were attacked by the gangsters in Malaysia.

'It is understood that their target was a group of middle aged Malaysian men of South Indian origin. The armed gang had mistaken the Sri Lankan students as acquaintances of their target, and launched the brutal attack on them,' the ministry statement said.

Many western countries’ higher education institutions including, Australian universities such as Monash University, Curtin University, and Britain’s University of Nottingham have campuses in Malaysia. Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi announced the country’s goal of attracting 100,000 international students by 2010 as part of its plan to become an education hub.
