Chennai: The Communist Party of India (CPI), the National general secretary, D. Rajah, said the Manmohan Singh’s UPA government betrayed the Sri Lankan Tamils. He said, now that Sri Lankan President declared victory of war after the Killinochchi occupation, Prime Minister now should be openly asked him to stop the war which kills innocent civilians in Vanni. He asked whether Indian government under Manmohan Singh is waiting for the war to end in Sri Lanka.
"It is high time that the Central Government headed by Congress recast its policy towards Sri Lanka and send External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee as promised to a multi-party delegation from Tamil Nadu," D Raja said.
"India should help Tamils live peacefully in their country and also make sure that their legitimate aspirations are met," he said. The DMK, which is part of the UPA government, is responsible for all the steps taken by the government on the issue, he said and added that the Dravidian party cannot "absolve" of its responsibility in the issue.
"The DMK cannot hoodwink the people of Tamil Nadu by its rhetoric on the issue. It is also responsible for the government's actions," he said.
He said, India continues to assist the Sri Lankan government with arms and ammunitions to the Sri Lankan government. He also asked the Indian government to comment on the reports of the Indian Air Force officers were visiting to Sri Lankan Air Force and providing assistance to them.
"If the government continues to do that, the Congress will be condemned for betraying the cause of Tamils," Raja said.
Over 327,000 Tamil men, women including over 40,000 children are living in the north with limited or no access to food, medicines, and other basic essentials due to the relentless war against them for the past twenty one months, and he urged the Inetrnational community to make sure the un interrupted food, medicines and other basic necessities reaches the badly affected internally displaced people.
Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu state’s general secretary, D. Pandyan said, the occupation of the Killinochchi saddened us, CPI in Tamil Nadu will be conducting protest rally against Indian central government for not respecting the 60 million Tamils’ feeling towards their brethrens in Eelam on Januray 6th in Tamil Nadu. He also stated the CPI will support any parties’ agitations in Tamil Nadu in support of Eelam Tamils.
Meanwhile, The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Kadchy (VCK), the leader Thol. Thirumavalavan said, the Sri Lankan forces only occupied the administrative capital of Eelam Tamils with the tremendous helps of six or seven countries including India.
He said, the Central government betrayed 100 million Tamils all over the world and helped the Sri Lankan government to occupy the Killinochchi, it is not going to end the war, but suffering of our brethrens in Eealm are multiplying into many folds.
