A Staunch Eelam supporter Mampalam Swamy Passes Away in U.S

New Jersey: Fr. Thevathasan Antony, Staunch Eelam supporter, ardent lover of Tamil language, its heritage, tirelessly worked to bring the awareness of the Eelam Tamils plights and their sixty years of long struggle for freedom with dignity to the international arena has passed away in New Jersey hospital in US, on December 14^th, 2008.

He was very fondly known as "Maampalam Swamy" and "Father Maampalam" by his people in Eelam and abroad. Mambalam Swamy was a prominent Tamil Eelam activist, an author of many books, articles and songs on Eelam and Tamils struggle for the freedom.

When he was in Tamil Eelam he was involved in Tamil National struggle followed democratic path and justified the Tamils' freedom struggle in the International arena. He was also a very eloquent speaker, continued his relentless and invaluable services to his people until his untimely demise.
 

He was aggressively involved and politically campaigned for the Tamils' identity during late seventies in the Mannar district and he used not only the political platform but also his pulpit to save the Mannar district with Tamils identity for which he was well respected by the people in Mannar and rest of Eelam.

As the Tamil National struggle progressed his services to his people were questioned by the Sri Lankan government and its armed forces which forced him to flee the country. While he lived in U.S, he wrote many books, such as, "Azham Vizhuthuga", "Mampazham" for the Diaspora Tamils and he also produced many books and articles on the Eelam struggle and its history.

Mr. Thevathasan Antony, Maampalam Swamy earned the trust and love from the Late, Brigadier. Thamilselvan, the former political leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and many other officials. He went to Eelam after the biggest ever natural tragedy of the 2004 South Asian Tsunami to serve and assit his people.

He lived and worked with the Tsunami affected people in the Eelam for many months for the betterment of those people who were severely affected by the firstly decades old War Tsunami and the Natures fury of South Asian Tsunami. He provided invaluable counseling services to these people to bring them out from the worst form of trauma and offered spiritual and physical services to those helpless people in their time of their needs.

When he returned to US from Tsunami affected Eelam, he spent his time and energy to collect food, money and other necessary items only to send those items to the Tsunami affected people in the Eelam.

A few months ago on the memory of Brigadier. Thamilselvan, he wrote a song call "Viduthazhaiyin Vasazhil" (At the gate of the Liberation) and released a CD, this CD is a testament for his love for the Tamil language, the freedom of his people and Tamil national struggle.

He also produced another song "Vedda Vedda Thazhaikum" on the memory of the biggest South Asian Tsunami victims in Eelam. He tirelessly and constructively worked for the freedom of his people for years and his untimely loss would be a great loss to the people of Tamil Eelam.
