While bidding farewell to the 21 Black Tigers before their departure for Anuradhapura mission, the Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) leader V. Pirapaharan told them that they will remain in his heart as guiding spirits providing willpower and moral strength in steering the current struggle for liberation. He compared their sacrifices with those of Kumarapppa, Pulendran and Thileepan, which inspired him personally in his determination to face the Indian forces successfully two decades ago, said Kalaikkoan, who is an instructor of Lt. Col. Rayan Academy for Tiger special forces, addressing a memorial event held at Puthukkudiyiruppu Thursday.

SLA mini-camp in Yala overrun - LTTE

Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) have overrun a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camp near Yala sanctuary in southern Sri Lanka, LTTE field officials in Ampaa'rai told TamilNet. 6 SLA troopers were killed, many wounded in the raid which has taken place 40 km south of Poththuvil, according to Tigers who claimed that the camp was under their control for 3 hours during which time they seized arms and ammunitions from the camp. The Yala sanctuary which is one of the island's main tourist attractions lies on the southern end of the Ampaa'rai district.

SLA orders special IDs to Jaffna residents

The Sri Lankan Military Command for Jaffna based in Palaali has instructed all the residents of the Peninsula, above the age of ten, to obtain a special identity card issued by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) before 12 September, according to a press communiqué released on Wednesday.

Cost of new ID cards to be borne by Jaffna residents

People's Committee for Justice, Peace and Goodwill (PCJPG), the Federation of NGOs and the Human Rights Commission (HRC), in Jaffna have requested the High Commands of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) 51-2 Brigade in Jaffna to bear the cost of the Special Identity Cards (SID), that the SLA has ordered all the residents of the peninsula above the age of ten.

SL Parliament extends Emergency for another month

British deportations continue as hunger strikers weaken

The health of several of the dozens of Tamil asylum seekers on hunger strike at British detention centers is deteriorating rapidly with some being rushed to hospital, detainees and lawyers said Friday. However, enforced deportations from the centers are continuing regardless of the now weeklong protest, they said.
